Student placement insurance 2026/2027 – NNW and liability: what should you check?

There is no single identical insurance requirement for every placement. A university, company or host institution may require NNW, liability cover, or a specific scope of cover and document. Check the organiser’s requirements first, then choose the insurance.

International student

A placement in Poland does not replace the residence requirement in the terms and conditions.

If you are an international student studying in Poland, PZU Edukacja may cover you if you meet the product eligibility conditions, including the requirement that on the date the insurance contract is concluded you have your permanent place of residence in Poland. Separately, check the requirements of your university and placement provider.

Checklist

Before buying insurance for a placement, check these 6 points.

A common mistake is to buy insurance simply because its name includes “student” or “placement”, without checking the requirements of the specific host institution.

01

Type of insurance

Is NNW required, liability cover, both, or another document?

02

Placement scope

Does the insurance need to cover losses or accidents arising during placements away from the university premises?

03

Sum / limit

Has the organiser specified a minimum NNW sum insured or liability sum?

04

Period of cover

Does the insurance need to cover the whole academic year or only the placement dates?

05

Territory

For placements abroad, check the country and the required territorial scope.

06

Proof document

Check which document must be provided to the university or placement host.

PZU Edukacja · NNW + liability

What does the current PZU table show for students?

In the 2026/2027 table, the liability extension concerning placements away from school or university premises is indicated for all 9 options. This does not mean automatic liability for every loss; application depends on the circumstances, the applicable liability OWU and the provisions of the selected option.

NNW or liability?

During placements these two types of insurance address different risks.

Medical placements

A student of medicine, nursing, physiotherapy or another medical field should check the host institution’s requirements particularly carefully.

Some institutions require trainees to provide documents confirming NNW and liability cover, and the required scope may be set by the university or host organisation. The PZU Edukacja OWU also describe benefits related to occupational exposure to infectious material for persons specified in the terms, if that scope is included in the contract.

Do not assume that every NNW + liability policy automatically meets the requirements of clinical placements. Compare the institution’s requirements with the documents for the specific option first.

Example placement requirements may include both NNW and liability cover. Check the rules of your university and host institution.

How should you read these examples?

The scenarios help distinguish NNW from liability cover, but they do not determine whether the insurer is liable.

Each case is assessed under the concluded contract, the applicable OWU, documentation and the actual circumstances of the event.

NNW

Injury during a placement

A student falls while carrying out tasks and is injured. The NNW scope and the conditions for the relevant benefit need to be checked.

Liability

Damage to someone else’s property

During a placement, damage is caused to a third party’s property. The student’s liability, the scope of liability cover, exclusions and the placement extension all matter.

MED

Clinical placement

A student begins training at a medical facility. They should first check the facility’s formal requirements and whether the selected contract includes the required scope.

The requirement is not universal

The placement organiser may set its own insurance requirements.

For example, Poland’s Ministry of Health indicates current NNW as a condition for its student placements, while other organisations may require liability cover or both types of insurance. Always check the rules of the specific organiser.
